The annual Barn Dance hosted by the Rotary Club of Monroe is one of the Monroe community’s favorite events and is the club’s only fundraiser.  This year the club surpassed all previous records for money raised to enable so many worthwhile local and international community projects.  The preliminary tally of net proceeds is around $85,000. The event features a country theme, with BBQ and accompaniments prepared and served by club member Jamie Silva and company.  The hosted bar served to grease the skids with beer and wine selections chosen by the committee specifically to suit the tastes of our attendees.  Music was provided by club member and Rotaractor Darian Caldwell and friends including Rotaractors from Snohomish County Rotaract.
The silent and live auctions offered many interesting, fun and useful items.  The auction was made successful by club member Sue Skillen and many other club members.  The Rotary Club of Woodinville provided volunteers for the “back-office” support such as registration and checkout.   A game of heads or tails, sale of “golden tickets”, and the infamous Chicken Shit Bingo game were big hits.
A highlight of the evening was recognizing former and now honorary club member Ric Carlson for his vision and perseverance in the establishment of a Miracle League baseball program for differently-abled kids, and the construction of Monroe Rotary Field built specifically for them.  The Sky Valley YMCA who some years ago agreed to manage the program presented a video showing the value of the program for these kids.
Chairperson Delma Silva put all of this together to produce an event that was virtually flawless.  Delma worked tirelessly for the entire year to ensure the event was successful.  Thanks to all who participated!  See you again next year.
